Kyogoku Kaneyo -Eel on the bowl of rice-
Aug 3, 2017
Kaneyo is a famous for its eel dish called Una-Don (char grilled eel on the bowl of rice) with a 100-Year History.
It’s grilled over charcoal and basted with a fantastic semi-sweet sauce, then served over rice. There are no bones and the flesh almost melts in your mouth. Unagi is especially popular in the summer, because Japanese believe that eating unagi makes them better able to endure the crushing heat of a summer in Kyoto.
Their signature dish is "Kinshi-don". the dish is pretty photogenic. It is basically similar to Una-don but it has a big and thick egg omelette on top.
you can watch a chef at work cooking unagi with charcoal grill from a window. You can feel authentic Japanese atmosphere in the second floor of the restaurant which is a tatami room with floor seating. Don't worry! they also have tables and chairs on the first floor if you don't like floor seating.
